Air And Water Pollution Problems ~ What Are Our Options?
Air and water pollution is the addition of any chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of air and water that has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks or breaths and lives within it. All life forms are affected when breathing polluted air and drinking polluted water. These pollutants often have serious effects on our health. With knowledge and awareness we can learn to protect ourselves from much of the exposure to these polluted elements in our air and water.
Many people commonly think air and water pollution is outside, however these outside air and water pollutions come inside our buildings, including our homes. When we know we are breathing clean air and drinking clean water brings peace of mind. It takes some knowledge and action on our part to learn how to actively seek ways to live our lives surrounded by a healthier environment. It is important to consider both indoor and outdoor air and water pollutants and what options we have to address them.
Each year the health of millions of people is jeopardized by contaminants in the air they breath and the water they drink. There are short and long-term effects from air and water pollution and each person reacts differently to these contaminants. The very young and elderly are more susceptible to the effects of these pollutants, as well as people with health issues. It is the total exposure to these pollutants that indicate the damage to each individual.
The total exposure concept of air and water pollutions is to address the level of concentration and duration one has been exposed to these contaminants. Short-term exposure can reveal itself in terms of a minor eye, nose and throat irritations to more serious respiratory infections. One extreme example of short-term exposure is 1952 London, England 4,000 people died in just a couple days due to ridiculously high concentrations of smog. Long-term exposure to pollutions and contaminants leads to chronic disease and death. Realizing these facts and knowing what to do to purify the air we breath and add filtration to the water we drink can dramatically increase peoples chances for a longer, healthier life.
There are many air purifiers and water filtration systems we can add to our homes and offices to clean up the air and water we are exposed to each and every day. However, there are times when indoor pollution may reach levels that even the best of household filters and purification systems are unable to cope with effectively. The good news is there are advanced protection filtration systems that can help when the mainstream air purification and water filtration systems are just not enough.
Our options are many when it comes to taking action in reducing the total exposure to pollutions, especially indoor pollutions! Exploring the mainstream air and water filtering systems is a good place to start for the individual who is not at immediate risk and does not manifest the short-term symptoms to pollutants. The more extreme solutions to obtain clean air and water is available for those with health issues and need for advanced filtration and purification to help their health issues stabilize and/or improve.
Knowing to stay inside when the air quality is unhealthy is a wise choice, as well as, not drinking from lakes or streams when we do not realize the contaminants in the water. Being aware of our immediate environment pollutions when we are outside and indoors is key. Taking action after discovering what we can do to reduce unhealthy air and contaminated drinking water is critical to our health.
