It is not that disasters only happen due to change of the weather, environment and natural calamities, but a catastrophe could happen in the work place.
For the general safety of the workers and employees at the work place, the emergency action plan has been created to ensure their safety. Maintaining the occupational safety and health standards, this plan is created by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration who are concerned about the protection of the employees. This plan is created so that during emergencies in the workplace, the employees can be gathered together to move into a safer place.
This emergency action plan is designed in a such way that the employees could be given proper training so that they could handle emergency situations.
If you are an employee at the work place, they will train you to be responsible for certain roles during emergencies so that there are less injuries or physical damages. If the emergency plan cannot be prepared according to the standards, then it will not work effectively during the emergency and may result in confusion, damage or physical injuries. On the other hand, only proper planning of action during emergencies in the work place can save everyone from the dangers.
Apart from the training, the emergency plan of action should be displayed in several units of the work place, so that the employers are also prepared.
There are several measures that should be given importance while creating the action plan for a work place emergency. What will be the procedures and responsibilities for fire, using emergency escape routes, emergency evacuation, medical and rescue duties and maintaining the alarm system etc.? If possible, employees should review the emergency plan with each other. After assigning the employees with their responsibilities in the training, the plans and roles may be changed so employees need to be updated with the plans and information that has been changed.
Once everyone is prepared for the emergency action plan, the employees will be prepared to respond to work place emergencies when the time comes.
If possible, it is necessary to form a group of employees who will manage and review this plan frequently to make additional updates and sort out responsibilities. However, to make the plan successful, each and every employee at the work place needs to be committed to carry out this plan effectively according to their roles, no matter how difficult the situation is.
If there are few employees at your work place, then you can communicate with them orally about the plan and let them have a short training session. However, if there are a large group of employees working at your organization, then you need to make sure that you have written information of the emergency plan which could be placed in check lists all over the work place for awareness.
