This weekend I attended the Utah PREPARE Conference & Expo. The turn-out was only what I’d call “fair” but this was great for me, because that meant I could talk with vendors, authors, and other preppers without too much competition for these peoples time.
These preparedness expos are a great resource. Below I’ll go over some of what I found at the expo, and you’ll quickly see how beneficial it is to attend!
What I found
I found some great vendors with some amazing products up for grabs at this preparedness expo.
I was so impressed with the product that I picked one up to try out on this next hunting trip and review for you guys!
Here’s a video of the Emberlit Stove in action:
I can’t wait to test this thing a bit further and give you the thorough review, but my initial impressions are very good!
UPDATE: Here is the Review of the Emberlit Stove!
I was happy to see the folks from WaterPrepared promoting their awesome water storage products at the preparedness expo.
If you remember, one of my first reviews was the WaterPrepared 160 gallon, stackable water storage tanks (Check out the review here.)
I still have these tanks in my garage holding 320 gallons of water. I can’t say anything I haven’t already said in the review, other than the fact that water should be one of the primary areas of focus for your preps. If you haven’t yet established your water storage, or you’re looking to expand, give these tanks a STRONG consideration!
Here’s a quick overview of their product:
I had never heard of this company before this weekend, but I was drawn to their booth. Not only was it a very professional and good looking display, but they had amazing first aid kits, military style IFAKs, all the way up to large surgical style trauma kits.
I got to speak with them for a good while, and was thoroughly impressed with their product offerings.
At the time of writing this blog post, their website is under construction, but it should be launching in the next couple of days. I foresee these folks making a big splash because from what I saw of their booth, their kits are of the highest quality.
I’m hoping to work with them to get some of their products reviewed for you guys! We’ll see how it goes!
Who I Met
Another great aspect of the preparedness expo is that I was able to meet up with some fellow Prepared Bloggers that I respect, and whose blogs I follow. We were able to get together, eat lunch, talk briefly about blogging, and just get to know each other a little bit. It was a great opportunity to meet some very smart people and learn from them. I also picked up an Autographed copy of Angela’s book “Food Storage for Self-Sufficiency and Survival: The Essential Guide for Family Preparedness” which is available in our store: here! I’ll read it, and let you know what I think soon!
Left to Right:
- Angela Paskett – Food Storage And Survival
- Jodi Moore & Julie Weiss – Food Storage Made Easy
- My ugly mug….
- Carin Hadley – A Matter of Preparedness
You should take the time to visit each of their blogs, as they have much to offer us all!
What I learned
Jodi and Julie, above, taught an excellent class on “Powerless Cooking.” I learned quite a few good ideas for creating heat to cook with without the benefit of electricity or natural gas.
In addition, there were a good 20+ classes that I did not make time to attend, but would have been great! Two of the titles that caught my eye (and made me disappointed that I missed):
- Emergency/Disaster Communications
- Build Your Own Mock Root Cellar
How do I find a preparedness expo in my area?
Great question! Google is your friend! Here are some preparedness expos coming this winter:
- Self Reliance Expo
November 7-8. National Western Complex, Denver, CO
- Back to Basics Sustainable Living and Survival Expo
November 15-16. Grand Place at Fair Park. Dallas, TX
- Back to the Land
November 15-16. Mohave County Fairgrounds, Kingman, AZ
- Arizona Survivalist/Prepper Expo
Well there you have it. Preparedness expos are a great way to meet other people interested in being better prepared to survive an emergency, disaster, doomsday or some wild SHTF/TEOTWAWKI/*insert your acronym of choice here* scenario. There are plenty of great products and vendors to see, and workshops to learn from.
Find your nearest expo, and attend!
